Abstract
This qualitative study explores the future of student services for Cambodian higher education institutions. The 26 participants were selected through purposive sampling techniques. The semi-structured interview data were analyzed using thematic coding, drawing on the literature review and emergent patterns during coding. The findings reveal seven major factors shaping responsive student services: (1) institutional leaders’ commitment: highlighting the role in designing effective plans and structures; (2) financial allocation: involving sufficient budget for extra programs and services; (3) one-window service and adaptive technology: including fast accessibility services and using digital platforms; (4) specialist and generalist support: hiring people with professional skills and soft skills; (5) extracurricular activities: emphasizing co-curricular activities and inclusiveness; (6) student life cycle needs analysis: conducting ongoing research on student needs; and (7) student engagement: opening student organization and participation. This study concluded that investment should be directed toward creating an ecosystem that supports student services and retention. Moving forward, these results also emphasize the need for student needs analysis and an ongoing capacity-building program for service providers to sustain innovation-driven research and student retention.
